Liverpool are reportedly planning a €40million investment to secure the transfer of Lecce left-back Patrick Dorgu, a player also attracting interest from Manchester United.
The Reds may soon need to refresh their options at left-back, with Andrew Robertson showing signs of decline this season and nearing the later stages of his career. Dorgu, a Denmark international, appears to be a promising candidate to serve as a long-term successor to Robertson at Anfield.
According to a report from Italian outlet Solo Lecce, Liverpool are stepping up their interest in Dorgu, viewing him as an ideal fit for the club’s future.
However, Manchester United are also keen on the talented defender, who would suit Ruben Amorim’s wing-back system, making this a potentially challenging deal for Liverpool to finalize.
Patrick Dorgu attracting interest from Liverpool and Manchester United
In a recent interview with CaughtOffside, Fabrizio Romano highlighted Patrick Dorgu alongside Nuno Mendes as players that Manchester United are targeting for the left-back position.
“United will be exploring additional options, and one of the players they’ve been keeping an eye on is Danish full-back Patrick Dorgu. He can play both on the left and right and has been impressing in Serie A with his strong performances.
“However, it’s important to note that Lecce turned down several offers from foreign clubs during the summer transfer window.”
It will be intriguing to see if Liverpool can secure the signing of Patrick Dorgu, as the 20-year-old may view them as the more attractive option at this stage.
Manchester United are still a way off reaching their desired level, and it will likely take time for Ruben Amorim to get them back on track. In contrast, under Arne Slot, Liverpool are already competing for major honours, which could make Anfield a more appealing destination for the young defender.
