Arsenal is actively searching for a new striker following their recent struggles in front of goal and the long-term injury to Gabriel Jesus.
Mikel Arteta’s side has struggled offensively, resulting in defeats in crucial matches, including the Carabao Cup and FA Cup losses to Newcastle United and Manchester United. While they still have the second leg of the Carabao Cup to play, their FA Cup journey has ended prematurely.
Determined to bolster his attack, Arteta is eager to add firepower during this transfer window. Arsenal has been linked with several strikers, including Benjamin Šeško from RB Leipzig, Alexander Isak from Newcastle United, and Dusan Vlahovic from Juventus.
Providing an update on Arsenal’s transfer plans, journalist David Ornstein shared insights during the Back Pages podcast:
“They’ve been linked with Dusan Vlahovic. From what I’ve heard, it doesn’t seem like that’s a direction Arsenal will pursue right now, but with a couple of weeks left, we’ll see how things develop with the various options they’re likely considering.”
“They like Benjamin Sesko historically, but I don’t expect him to move in this window.
“The real apple of their eye is Alexander Isak, certainly for Mikel Arteta. But we know how difficult that will be, if possible at all.”
Alexander Isak would be an ideal signing for Arsenal.
The Swedish international has been in sensational form this season, netting 15 league goals in just 19 appearances. His performances earned him the Premier League Player of the Month award for December, edging out Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah for the honor.
Despite Mikel Arteta’s admiration for the Newcastle United forward, a move seems highly unlikely. Signing Isak would require Arsenal to shatter the Premier League transfer record, as Newcastle holds a strong position with the player secured on a long-term contract at St. James’ Park.
