Arsenal has officially announced the signing of a £70m superstar after triggering his release clause last night. The player has agreed to a contract running until 2028 and is scheduled to undergo his medical examination today.
Arsenal Set to Secure Real Sociedad Midfielder Martín Zubimendi
According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal is closing in on the signing of Real Sociedad midfielder Martín Zubimendi.
Since joining Arsenal from Atlético Madrid, Thomas Partey has been Mikel Arteta’s preferred holding midfielder. However, with Jorginho brought in as support and both players now in the final months of their contracts, Arsenal is planning to refresh this crucial position.
The Daily Mail reports that Arsenal has been tracking Zubimendi for over a year and is determined to strengthen their midfield by securing his services. While Liverpool attempted to sign the Spaniard last summer, Zubimendi chose to remain at his boyhood club. However, Arsenal has made significant progress, with Fabrizio Romano confirming that the player has agreed to join the North London side, influenced by Arteta’s convincing pitch.
Zubimendi to Arsenal
Arsenal is reportedly in advanced talks to sign the 25-year-old and plans to trigger his £51 million release clause. While the Gunners aim to finalize the deal swiftly, Real Sociedad is reluctant to let Zubimendi leave mid-season, making a summer transfer more likely.
Manchester City had also shown interest in Zubimendi as a replacement for Rodri following his season-ending injury. Despite this competition, Arsenal appears to be leading the race, with journalist Ben Jacobs noting that terms have already been negotiated.
Zubimendi has been a standout performer for Real Sociedad, having risen through their academy system. He is regarded as one of La Liga’s top midfielders and has earned a regular spot in the Spain national team in Rodri’s absence.
Technically gifted and an excellent deep-lying playmaker, Zubimendi is well-suited to Arteta’s possession-based style. He excels at breaking through defensive lines with precise passes, countering high-pressure systems, and providing robust protection for the backline.
If Arsenal finalizes this signing, it would represent a major boost for their midfield and a step toward long-term squad development.
