Arsenal have been advised that the unexpected signing of Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez could transform the dynamics of their squad.
Despite Nunez struggling to fully adapt at Liverpool and falling short of the impact fans anticipated, former Reds midfielder Dietmar Hamann believes the Uruguayan forward could bring a new dimension to Mikel Arteta’s attack.
Arsenal currently lack a true number 9 in their lineup, sparking links to players like Benjamin Šeško and Dušan Vlahović, according to The Athletic and other sources.
Hamann suggests that Nunez could address Arsenal’s issues in this position, though it’s unclear how enthusiastically the idea would be received by the Gunners faithful.
Darwin Nunez – could he be a surprise hit for Arsenal?
Dietmar Hamann has expressed admiration for Darwin Nunez, acknowledging the Uruguay international’s potential despite some flaws in his game.
The German believes Nunez can be a formidable presence, with his physicality and pace offering a transformative impact for a team like Arsenal.
“If he were a better finisher, he could be the best player in the world because, at times, he’s unplayable and brings others into play,” Hamann told BestOffShoreSportsbook, as quoted by The Metro. “That said, for £85m, you’d have to say he was overpriced.”
He added, “Arsenal would be a different team with Darwin Nunez leading the line—someone with that kind of physical presence who can stretch defenses and create space for others.”
“Imagine the havoc Bukayo Saka or Gabriel Martinelli could wreak with Darwin Nunez stretching defenses with his pace and keeping defenders occupied. It would completely transform the team’s dynamic.
“Kai Havertz might make runs in behind, but he’s quickly caught by defenders after just a step or two. Arsenal need a quick center forward to provide a different dimension to their attack.
“Their struggles up front largely stem from the lack of a strong physical presence.”
