Arne Slot is looking to add to his Liverpool squad ahead of his first season in the dugout, with sporting director Richard Hughes working on matters behind the scenes
Liverpool are still waiting to make their first signings of the Arne Slot era, but the new manager’s first pre-season friendly is drawing closer.
Slot arrived at Anfield shortly after the 2023-24 Premier League season came to a close, with the Reds taking time to find a successor to Jurgen Klopp after the German confirmed in January that the campaign would be his last. However, with just a week to go until their first pre-season friendly, more work needs to be done.
Liverpool have seen some senior players leave already. Thiago has retired, while Adrian and Joel Matip have both left Anfield after the expiry of their deals.
Another free agent could end up being Slot’s first signing, though other names are also in the mix. Here are Mirror Football’s latest lines from around Anfield.
Juventus manager Thiago Motta has bid Adrien Rabiot farewell after the club confirmed the Frenchman’s exit. Motta and Rabiot were once team-mates at Paris Saint-Germain, but the French international is not sticking around to play under the former Bologna boss in Turin.
Rabiot joined Juve in 2019, racking up more than 200 appearances for the Serie A club. However, Liverpool are among the clubs understood to be in the mix following his exit.
“As a friend, I’ll be very happy if he’s happy elsewhere,” Motta said. “I’ve known him for a long time and I wish him the best.”
Wolfsburg defender Maxence Lacroix has long been linked with Liverpool, but Nice are eyeing up a move for the centre-back with Jean-Clair Todibo on the move. West Ham are battling it out with Juventus for Todibo, who made his senior France debut last term.
